What Is the Wonderlic Test?

The Wonderlic Test is also known as the The Wonderlic Personnel Test or Cognitive Ability Test. The Wonderlic Personnel Test comes in two versions: the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Pretest (WPT-Q) and the Wonderlic Personnel Test WPT-R. The WPT has four main sections; spatial reasoning, speed, verbal, and word problems.


What Is Covered on the Wonderlic Test Sections?

Spatial Reasoning/ Logic

These questions will make up about 20% of the exam. Expect to face questions requiring you to complete patterns, analyze shape configurations, and decide if a statement is true or false based on specific conditions.

Speed/ Quick Recognition

These questions make up about 20% of the test. These are general knowledge type questions where the emphasis is answering them quickly. For example you might be asked something like; which is not a sport: tennis, the U.S open, baseball, swimming. The answer is the U.S open. At first glance you might get confused under pressure. 

Verbal

These questions will make up about 40% of the exam. They will test your word knowledge and grammar skills. Expect to face; synonyms, antonyms, sentence scrambles, analogies and proverbs.

Word Problems

These questions makeup about 20% of the exam. They are math word problems. They will combine problem solving and basic math functions. These questions will take up the most time on the exam. Keep in mind you are not allowed to use a calculator.


What Is the Difference between the Wonderlic WPT-Q and the WPT-R?

The Wonderlic WPT-Q is a shorter version of the exam. The WPT-Q is the computer based version which is taken online usually from the candidate's house. This test has 30 questions to be completed in 8 minutes. The WPR-T is the full-length exam that is usually taken at an exam site. The test consists of 50 questions to be finished in 12 minutes.

What Is the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE)

The Wonderlic SLE is used in the recruitment process in colleges in the United States. The score on this test will contribute to acceptance into the college or the university. This test has two versions: the SLE and the SLE-Q. The Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE) consists of 50 questions to be completed within 12 minutes. The Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam Quicktest (SLE-Q) – consists of 30 questions to be completed within 8 minutes. Both versions of the test cover the following topics; math, logic, verbal, and general knowledge.

What Is the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (BST)

The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (BST) evaluates basic skills. The test is used in placement in academic programs or as a pre-employment test for basic entry level positions. The test focuses on two subjects: verbal and quantitative reasoning. The verbal portion of the test has 50 questions, and will test your comprehension, word knowledge, and grammar. The quantitative portion has 45 questions, and covers; basic operations, proportions, percentages, solving equations, and basic geometry.

What Is the Wonderlic Wonscore Test?

The Wonscore test is a combination of three exams; the Wonderlic Personnel test, Wonderlic Motivation Potential assessment, and the Wonderlic Personal Characteristics inventory. This test is used by large companies in part of the recruitment process. The Wonderlic Personnel Test is a cognitive ability test with 50 multiple-choice questions. The Wonderlic Motivation Potential Assessment is a 30 question test that evaluates key drivers of motivation. The Wonderlic Personal Characteristics Inventory is a 150 multiple-choice test which gives the employer a picture of your personality traits and if they match the target job.

What Is the NFL Wonderlic?

The NFL (National Football League) uses the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test (WCA) in their drafting process as part of the NFL Scouting Combine. The NFL Scouting Combine is a week-long scouting event where college football players are evaluated. The NFL scouts use the Wonderlic as a qualitative way to compare the potential new recruits. The test is scored out of 50 and you get a point for each correct answer. Here are the target scores for each position:

Offensive tackle: 26Center: 25
Quarterback: 24 (no lower than 21)Guard: 23
Tight end: 22Safety: 19
Linebacker: 19Cornerback: 18
Wide receiver: 17Fullback: 17

What Is the Subway Wonderlic?

Those applying for a job at Subway will be required to take the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST). This exam measures an applicant's basic language and mathematical skills. The test is scored out of 500. Applicants should aim to get a score of at least a 200 on the verbal section and a 210 on the math section.
